" Superb job
The guys did a superb job extending our paving round our new garage. The job was very competitively priced and Renier came to see us a couple of times to make sure we were happy with his plan. They were tidy through out the job and the end result was exactly what we wanted. Renier even went to the bother of adding a triangular slab so our bins would fit past the step and added black oxide to the cement ramp at the front of our garage so it would match the existing tar. Great job. Highly recommended.

"1st Class Workmanship

Renier and his two sons are true professionals. I was looking for an old patio replaced, a new retaining wall, a second patio created and new paved paths around my house. I discussed it with Renier, made him aware of my overall budget and he subsequently produced computer generated drawings and images together with a detailed cost breakdown and contract. I proceeded with the work and found the guys delivered exactly what they said. They arrived every day at 8.15am, worked straight through until after 5.30pm for just over 10 days. They kept me informed every step of the way and were meticulous with their work. Their attention to detail was amazing and we're delighted with the finished product. We have no hesitation in recommending them, they are brilliant and lovely people as well.

    PAVING - How it's done

THE AREA TO PAVE

Paving
Firstly you need to make sure the area you have chosen is where you want the paving to be. Then you need to assess the ground conditions so that the correct foundation layers can be determined to ensure a solid stable foundation for the paving layer.
If the area has bad drainage, is water logged or the storm water run off is likely flow onto a public area then it is a requirement to install drains that connect into the storm water system or into a soak away.

EXCAVATION

Excavation
Once the area has been determined then the area is excavated to allow for all the different layers to be placed.
The layer design is dependent on the ground conditions and will be determined by your paving specialist but general rule of thumb is 75mm sub-base for areas with no heavy traffic and 150mm for driveways with traffic loads less than 3000kg. Remember once the excavation is at the correct depth it must be leveled and compacted to the correct falls.

LAYERWORKS

Sub-base
On completion of the excavation stage the excavation for the soak away must be dug and the geo-fabric basket must be installed together with pipe work and installation of drainage channels or catch pits. Once the sub-base has been compacted to levels, a layer of geo-fabric is then laid and on top of this the layer of base course is leveled and compacted. A cross section can be seen below.

COMPACTION

Compation
Compaction is carried out on the sub-grade layer (In-situ ground), then again to the base course layer, the bedding layer then finally over the paved layer, if Paving blocks are used. Flags need to be bedded onto a mortar layer and bedded using a rubber mallet, There are a few variations to the above but generally these are the steps to ensure good compaction and prevent settlement and movement of the paving layer.

KERBING

Kerbing
After the base course layer has been compacted to levels and falls it's time to install a border or kerbing to retain the paving in place. This can be either specific kerbs that have been manufactured for this purpose or you can use a paving block header course as above.

BEDDING LAYER

Bedding layer
Once the kerbing has been installed, the sand bedding layer is then placed and leveled with the edge kerb's, remembering that if you want the paving to be level (flush) with the top of the kerb / header coarse, to leave the paver's slightly higher to allow settlement once the final compaction of the paver's is carried out.

LAYING THE PAVERS

Laying the Paving
At this stage the paving is laid according to your design and the once boring drab (high maintenance) area is now transformed into a beautiful, low maintenance area whether it's a driveway, patio, path or an area just to get away from mowing the lawn.

FINAL COMPACTION

Compaction
Once the laying of the paving is complete a plate compactor is used to bed and level the pavers into the sand layer. Kiln dried sand is spread over the surface of the paving and after completion of the compaction the fine sand is swept into the joints to lock up the paving. When all the joints have been filled the paving can be hosed down.
